Green Valley Gardens | Botanical Travels
Howdy, Y’all! I am so excited to share this new, botanical treasure that’s in Denton, Texas! So what is this botanical stop you must travel to if you’re in North Texas, you ask? Green Valley Gardens, of course! After relentlessly commenting on practically all of their Instagram posts about how excited I was to visit their gardens, I finally was able to go! Let me tell you, it was better than I even expected! With that in mind, since my blog is called The Botanical Texan, I wanted to share this new Texas, botanical travel destination with you all!
About Green Valley Gardens
Green Valley Gardens just recently opened on June 5th of 2021. It is run by a husband and wife duo, Amanda and Matthew, on their family’s land! Their land has been used for farming & ranching since the 1860s! Which, speaking of farming, you can also buy some of their produce at the Denton Community Market! In addition to having a nice plot of land, they also have an adorable chiweenie dog, Winnie, who will greet you at the entrance. Don’t worry, you’ll only have to pay a small entrance fee of giving a few belly rubs to Winnie to gain admittance into the garden!
Their typical hours are Friday thru Sunday, 8 am to 12 pm, with the occasional evening hours or mid-week opening! I would definitely recommend following their Instagram to look for any updates in their hours.
As for parking, they have a large circular driveway where you can park. According to their website, you can also park in the grass if you need to! Green Valley Gardens is right off of highway 428, at 9826 FM 428, Aubrey, TX.
Activities
When you come to visit Green Valley Garden there are a lot of activities ready to be enjoyed! Of course, there is the flower picking, which I will dive more into, but you can also feed chickens, take pictures in the flowers, play corn hole, or just relax in nature. In the fall, they are planning to have a pumpkin patch, which I am beyond excited about! If you’ve read this blog for any amount of time you know I am a sucker for all things fall!
Flower Picking
What’s better than your significant other giving you flowers? Going on a date to pick your own, of course! My boyfriend brings me flowers all the time, but this bouquet that we got to pick together at Green Valley Gardens is my absolute favorite! So now that you’re convinced you to need to go on a date to Green Valley Gardens, what should you expect when going to pick flowers?
First, you’ll want to stop over at the tent and pick up some scissors and a cup. Amanda and Matthew will walk you through the best ways to cut the flowers. There are also adorable signs posted around the flower beds, that give tips for how to cut each flower. After you know the methods for gathering your flowers, you frolic through the flower beds and cut as many flowers as you’d like for your bouquet! They have sunflower, zinnias, marigolds, cosmos, and so many more!
Once you have gathered all of your flowers, there is a little greenhouse where you can put together your bouquet. If you want some filler plants, they have baby’s breath available that you can add free of charge. Flower food, rubber bands, and vases are all available at this bouquet-making station as well!
Making a bouquet is the only part of the garden that really cost money (Unless you want to buy some produce). For a 20oz cup, you should expect to pay $25 dollars. When you think about how much a bouquet costs at the store, this is a really awesome value! Not only do you get a beautiful bouquet of flowers, but you get the experience of making it, as well!
I hope you add this new botanical travel destination to your itinerary! Not only will you get an amazing experience, but you also get to support a new, local business! That is what I call a win-win situation! If you end up going to Green Valley Gardens, be sure to send me a picture of the beautiful bouquet you make!
