Howdy y’all! Goodness, it feels like yesterday I first went to Gilliam’s Sunflower Festival in Lousiana. It’s hard to believe that was two years ago! But as Aggies like to say, if it happens twice it’s a tradition! My good friend Tay and I now have ourselves a tradition then! We once again ventured across the state border and saw the sunflowers!
Sunflowers are honestly so pretty and happy. I mean they have sun in their name, how could they not be happy flowers! Walking through the sunflower fields made me want Scott Joplin’s Sunflower Slow Drag” to be playing. Bumble bees were flying from flower to flower, kids were laughing and playing, and people were making flower crowns. It was whimsical. We only had one small incident involving a bug landing on Tay’s back, but luckily we survived!
The festival has lots of craft vendors, live country music, and good festival food! Gilliam being a small town has many old time shops. They have a cute old fashioned grocery store that actually has a nice selection of drinks and snacks! They also have an old library (where the glorious A.C. was) that gives the history of Gilliam and of the Sunflower Trails. One of the best parts of the festival: I SAW A PUG!!!
After we finished up in Gilliam and collected our Sunflowers, we headed off to Shreveport to get delicious macaroons at Buttercups Cupcakes. We ordered a massive box with 24 total macaroons and just sat in the bakery as we tried all the flavors. I also tried a fancy glass bottle of water from Italy. If you don’t hear from me in a while, it may be because I moved to Tuscany for the water!
Overall, I loved getting to spend quality time with one of my dearest friends. Getting to share experiences like this with people you enjoy is one of life’s greatest gifts.
