Coffee Crawl | Cryptozoology Coffee Shop

I posted my first Coffee Crawl post back in 2018 and have pretty much never posted another one since, despite wanting to. I spend so much time (and money) at coffee shops. I’m not sure what it is I love about them so much, but grabbing a drink at a local coffee shop is a must. To be transparent, I actually judge a town’s livability (for me, that is) based on the density & quality of coffee shops.

Denton luckily scores high on the coffee shop scorecard. We have so many great places to grab a cup of java all within a five-minute drive from my office. Needless to say, I get coffee after work a lot. I know a lot of my readers are college-aged & Denton has not one, but two universities! Coffee is pretty much a necessity for surviving college. I really want to start sharing these coffee shops on Cherry Blossom 56, so if you’re looking at attending one of the schools in Denton, you’ll know where to go study! First up, is one of my favorites: Cryptozoology!

Location

Cryptozoology is located right off the Denton Square, in the Armadillo Ale Works building. They only have the actual coffee shop portion open Monday thru Saturday 7am-7pm. The bar is open later. The building is actually quite large so it can accommodate a lot of people! Be warned, if you’re there to study, there aren’t outlets (after all it is a bar first, coffee shop second)

Events

Speaking of building size & accommodating a lot of people, Cryptozoology/ Armadillo Ale Works hosts several events throughout the months. Typically these are pretty artsy. My friend and I back in October went to one art sale pop at Crypto, where artists came and set up and sold their art. I feel like so many coffee shops accommodate music events, so it is nice to see art have an opportunity to shine!

Appearance

Cryptozoology’s appearance is one-of-a-kind, just like the unique animals its drinks are named after! The bar area has different cryptozoology creatures crawling around. If you look close you might even see the allusive loch ness monster!

Additionally, long benches line the building’s windows that bring in lovely sunlight. There are plenty of seats for everyone! Oh, and if you like arcade games, Cryptozoology Coffee has you covered.

Menu

Ok, now to all you bigfoot enthusiast out there, I am finally to the part y’all have all been waiting for: the menu.

Cryptozoology Coffee has all of your standard coffee drinks available, and they do those amazing, but I really want to talk about their specialty drinks. They have different menus based on the season, plus a standard menu. The seasonal menu’s drinks are always named after Cryptozoology creatures.

For example, this summer for Shark Week they had the “Megalodon” which was butterfly pea powder, sweetened condensed milk, oconut, milk, and a gummy shark!

Don’t worry though! If you want a fun crypto creature drink off the main menu you totally can! They always offer the Mothman Latte (I recommend getting it with their homemade vegan milk). It’s basically a charcoal latte! The sparkling iced tea is also delicious of their main menu!

Overall, this coffee shop is amazing! It’s not open at all hours like other shops in town, but if you can make it to Cryptozoology I highly recommend it! Also, side note: Some of the pictures are not mine, and are from the Facebook page! The image should take you to the correct link if I set it up right!
